Chia-Hua Chiang – cello, viola da gamba

Chia-Hua CHIANG, a Baroque cellist born in Taiwan, graduated from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. She trained under Prof. Rainer Zipperling, with a major in Baroque Cello and Viola da Gamba. She obtained her Master of Music in solo and chamber music in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Chia-Hua has frequently been invited to participate in early music festivals throughout Europe, such as the Zamus-Kölner Fest für Alte Musik and WDR3-Tage Alte Musik in Herne, and in Asia, such as FCCH Early Music Season in Beijing, Early Music Series at Tianjin Grand Theatre, as well as performances in Norway, Italy, and South America. Chia-Hua has performed regularly with the internationally acclaimed orchestra, L’arte del Mondo, based in Germany. Furthermore, Chia-Hua is one of the founding members of the Formosa Baroque Orchestra in Taiwan, and actively promotes early music on campus for the Taiwan Early Music Society. She also served as the lecturer for the Viola da Gamba Workshop in the summer of 2017 in Taiwan. In addition to Baroque cello performances, Chia-Hua is also quite active in chamber music performances with Viola da Gamba consorts. She played with various ensembles and took part in courses with Prof. Gerald Hambitzer and Prof. Richard Gwilt.

Since 2015, she has been studying with Prof. Rainer Zipperling and Prof. Ursula Schmidt-Laukamp in the chamber music master’s degree, also in the early music department. She has participated in at the ZAMUS Early Music Festival in Cologne, SWR Schwetzinger Festspiele, SWR2 RheinVokal Festival, The London International Festival of Early Music, China – Early Music Festival in Beijing and Tianjin, WDR3 Tage Alter Musik in Herne, Mozarteum Argentina with Rundfunkchor Berlin and l’arte del mondto, together with François Fernandez and Marc Hantaï , Pierre Hantaï, Ryo Terakado, Marc Mauillon and Rainer Zipperling in the Formosa Baroque Orchestra in Taiwan between 2018 to 2022. She recently participated in a CD recording with the Kölner Akademie featuring piano concertos by Johann Wilhelm Wilms, and has performed with the ensemble Compagnia di Punto, Kölner Akademie, Das Neue Orchester, l’arte del mondo, Le Concert Lorrain, Consortium Musica Sacra, Neues Rheinisches Kammerorchester Köln, Ensemble Musica Sconfinata, Ensemble Klangschmelze, Harmonie Universelle.

Chia-Hua currently plays regularly with L’arte del mondo, Formosa Baroque Orchestra, and has toured South America, Asia and Europe, and a member of the Cologne Early Music Society (Kölner Gesellschaft für Alte Musik). In 2018, she won first prize with the ensemble IJ SPACE at the Biagio-Marini Chamber Music Competition in Germany and third prize at the International Van Wassenaer Competition in Utrecht.
